The Nordic TAG 2026 conference will take place at Linnaeus University in Kalmar, Sweden, on 6-9 May, 2026. Session #1 posits how archaeology, in close cooperation with disciplines such as critical heritage studies and social anthropology, can mobilise its “superpowers” to enhance our understanding of which sustainable, responsible, and just practices are needed for habitable futures, integrating the human and more-than-human.
The session welcomes theoretical and/or case-study papers on these topics:
- Environmental lessons from the past: potential learning outcomes and pitfalls
- How can archaeological practices, initiatives, activism, and innovative communication contribute to more sustainable environments – not least by achieving better policies?
- How can archaeology collaborate cross-disciplinarily and across sectors to tackle “wicked” problems related to environmental and social crises?
- Which “just futures” do we aim for – for what and whom?
The Call for Papers is open until October 22th, 2025; please send your abstract proposal to almut.schulke@khm.uio.no
